Workshops for Couples
Having your first child is an amazing and awe inspiring experience. It is one to relish in and to cherish. At the same time, with this excitement and wonder can come a lot of challenges and questions about parenting and child care. Luckily, there are many resources readily available for you to take advantage of to help prepare you to keep your new baby healthy. All of this information can be invaluable, at the same time, it can be easy to get consumed with doing everything “right” with your baby leading you to focus all of you attention on the child, leaving little to none for your relationship with your partner.
This lack of attention to your marriage can lead to emotional, physical, and sexual distance. This is all too common and extremely unfortunate considering that a strong marriage is one of the most powerful ways to influence your child's emotional, physical, and intellectual development. What could be a greater gift to give to your child than to promote their development and provide them with a fantastic model of loving marriage? Additionally, having a strong marriage provides the additional support for you and your partner to help deal with the new stresses of parenting. So not only is it one of the best things you can do for your baby, but it is also is for you. After all, when you become parents, you do not stop being partners, you become parents AND partners.
Studies show that after the birth of their first child, two-thirds of couples report a significant drop in relationship satisfaction and hostile interactions increased dramatically.
A strong marriage helps:
• Prevent relationship meltdown
• Prevent escalating hostility
• Prevent postpartum depression
• Improves infant emotional, physical, and intellectual growth
• Decrease labor pains, labor complications, and length of labor
• Increase sexual satisfaction
• Keep your sex life fun and active
• Prevent anxiety and depression problems
